I am new to the camera world....i have never owned a camera before, never really been interested. BUT....i think it is finally time to join the world of picture takers.
Now here's the problem...i know absolutely NOTHING about cameras except you press the button an it takes a picture. So where do you start when you are shopping for a camera?
I am starting my investigation. Please look forward to my investigative report.

I am partial to Canon cameras. I own a digital SLR and a point and shoot (P&S) camera. There's also a "high end" sort of point a shoot that have a bigger, non-changeable lens. They can take nice photos but are bigger than a P&S.
If you're looking for portability and value I think the SD1000 is a great little camera. It's about $200. If you want to spend a bit more the SD1100IS also features an optical image stabilizer and your choice of colours. They're about $280.
If you're looking for a great SLR camera to take really photographic shots look at the Rebel XT. It's cheap (FutureShop has it on sale for $540), but great, and really good as a starter camera. (SLR cameras, and lenses, flashes, etc. can get quite pricey.)
As a side-note, please enable comments from people just using Name/URL because I hate to have to login to Google or something just to comment.
I also find myself in need of a new camera, as does mom. Maybe we can get a discount for buying three?
